The Indonesian government has implemented a policy to gradually phase out the use of various disposable plastic products by the end of 2029.
On June 5, 2023, Siti stated in Jakarta that this policy is beneficial for dealing with plastic waste that has no economic value and is difficult to recycle, and reducing environmental pollution caused by packaging containing polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry will continue to implement this policy by reducing the sources of waste and accelerating the processing speed. The Indonesian government has set a goal to reduce 30% of plastic waste and dispose of 70% of plastic waste by 2025. The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry will support producers in achieving the goal of reducing waste by 30% by the end of 2029, which will encourage sustainable development of businesses and promote the development of Indonesia's circular economy.
Recently, Indonesian Environment Minister Hanif announced the official cessation of importing waste plastics.
Indonesia will completely ban disposable plastic products including polystyrene foam, disposable plastic straw, plastic tableware and plastic shopping bags by the end of 2029. In addition, the central government also requires all manufacturers to reduce the use of plastic packaging by 30% by 2029 to reduce downstream plastic waste issues.
In response to the ban on disposable plastics, environmentally friendly alternative materials can be actively adopted. There are currently several types of materials on the market:
1. Pulp molding: pulp mold bowls, pulp mold plates, pulp mold lunch boxes, pulp mold cups, etc. Pulp molded products are biodegradable, widely available, and relatively mature in technology.
2. Paper products: various paper products such as paper bowls, paper boxes, paper cups, etc.
3. Other products.
