Nestle Vietnam to switch to paper straws

2020-10-15

Ali Abbas, director of Nestlé (Vietnam) Milo Milk Company, stated in April 2020 that Nestlé MILO will put more than 16 million paper drinking straws into use in 2020, which is equivalent to a reduction of 6.7 tons Plastic waste. Straw in paper is more eco friendly for the environment.

Mr. Ali Abbas made a vivid analogy that if these straws are connected end to end, they can be as long as 2,200 kilometers, which is equivalent to 1.5 times the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.

This is the first time Nestlé Milo has used disposable paper straws in Vietnam to replace disposable plastic straws. The group's paper straws are manufactured in accordance with European standards to ensure safe use, will not change the original flavor of the product and are easily biodegradable. Biodegradable paper straws are important for the environment.

The representative of Nestlé Milo (Vietnam) stated that the company’s initiative aims to implement its environmental protection philosophy, and to build a greener and cleaner Vietnam for a plastic waste-free future, so as to help the Vietnamese government achieve the goal by 2030. Contribute to the goal of 75% reduction in marine plastic waste.

Nestlé (Vietnam)’s move to say “no” to plastic straws is also an important step taken by the group in achieving the use of recyclable materials in all product packaging by 2025.
