China's Arbor Day

2021-03-16
Today is March 12, 2021, China's Arbor Day.

Arbor Day is a festival that promotes and protects trees in accordance with the law and organizes and mobilizes the masses to actively participate in tree planting and afforestation activities. According to the length of time, it can be divided into tree planting day, tree planting week and tree planting month, which is called the International Arbor Day. It is advocated that through this kind of activity, people will be enthusiastic about afforestation and realize the importance of environmental protection.

China's Arbor Day was initiated by Ling Daoyang, Han An, Pei Yili and other forest scientists in 1915. The time was initially set to be Qingming Festival every year. In 1928, the Nationalist Government changed the Arbor Day to March 12 to commemorate the third anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's death. After the founding of New China in 1979, under the proposal of Deng Xiaoping, the sixth meeting of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National People's Congress decided to set March 12 as the Arbor Day each year.

From July 1, 2020, the newly revised "Forest Law of the People's Republic of China" will be implemented, clarifying that March 12 is the Arbor Day every year.

The Arbor Day is to protect and encourage people to plant trees, encourage people to love trees, and remind people to value trees. Trees play a very important role in the survival of human beings and the ecological environment of the earth.
