Plastic limit in Xiamen, China

The Xiamen Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Xiamen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau jointly issued the "Implementation Measures of Xiamen on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution" on December 1, 2020, to carry out plastic pollution control work throughout the city.

According to the overall requirements of Xiamen's implementation measures: Establish and improve the management system of plastic products by prohibiting batches, restricting batches, replacing recycling batches, and standardizing batches, and orderly prohibiting the production, sales and use of certain plastic products.

The city prohibits the production and sale of ultra-thin plastic shopping bags with a thickness of less than 0.025 mm and polyethylene agricultural mulch film with a thickness of less than 0.01 mm. The manufacture of plastic products from medical waste as raw materials is prohibited, and the import of waste plastics is prohibited;

The production and sale of disposable foamed plastic tableware and disposable plastic cotton swabs are prohibited in the city.

Before the end of 2020:
The production of daily chemical products containing plastic microbeads is prohibited throughout the city, and sales are prohibited before the end of 2022.

The use of non-degradable disposable plastic straws is prohibited in the catering industry in the city.

Before the end of 2020:
Non-degradable disposable plastic tableware is forbidden to be used in catering services in built-up areas and scenic spots of our city.

Before the end of 2020:
The use of non-degradable plastic bags is prohibited in shopping malls, supermarkets, pharmacies, bookstores and other places in the built-up areas of our city, as well as food and beverage take-out services and various exhibition activities. The use is regulated and restricted in bazaars.
