Is CPLA biodegradable?

2020-10-20

PLA stands for Polylactic Acid. It is a biodegradable plastic derived from renewable starch resources such as corn starch which is plant-based and compostable.

PLA is the most well-known eco-friendly material. PLA is the best choice to make the safe and eco-friendly products. However, the pure PLA cannot resist the higher temperature (>55°C, it will deform) and the pure PLA is too fragile. According to these disadvantages, people develop the modified PLA which called CPLA. CPLA  features higher toughness and heat resistance. Heat resistance of the CPLA cutlery can reach 80 degrees Celsius.

Both PLA and CPLA are sustainably produced and 100% biodegradable and compostable.

The heat-resistant cups, bowls, plates, knives, forks, and spoons of modified polylactic acid (CPLA) can not only be truly biodegradable, but also have suitable cost and performance. They are currently relatively economically feasible and fully biodegradable products. CPLA disposable cutlery is non-toxic and harmless to human body, and has good biocompatibility and degradation performance. Under composting conditions, biodegradable CPLA cutlery is completely decomposed into water and carbon dioxide within 3-6 months, and applied as organic fertilizer to the farmland to become plant nutrients.
